What you will be doing

To befriend or buddy an older person or adult with support needs, to improve their confidence, emotional health and wellbeing, reducing their isolation and promote their independence.

• To visit a person with whom you have been matched, building a relationship of trust and friendship
• To give the person some company and/or enable them to get out and about or pursue a leisure interest or activity
• To complete a record sheet after each visit and to participate in regular supervision with your Coordinator
• To liaise, at times, with organisation name staff or other agencies as appropriate
• To uphold Sutton Befrienders core principles, vision, culture and values and abide by the policies and procedures as per our volunteer handbook

Skills Description
• To have a positive attitude towards older people and adults with support needs and to have a genuine interest in the desire to make a difference to them
• Patience and a warm and friendly attitude
• Good communication skills
• Ability to set and maintain good boundaries
• Ability to keep sensitive personal information confidential
• To be able to complete record sheets as required
• To be punctual and reliable A driving licence and access to a car is beneficial although not essential

What's the time commitment and where? 

Minimum 1 – 2 hours per relationship. Where possible, we welcome people to take on more than one match. Flexible what day and time you do these hours. The duration of the matches can vary depending on the clients' needs and goals

Location: Market House, 216-220 High Street, Sutton, Surrey SM1 1NU. Volunteering takes place in various locations in the community and the service user's home.
