Join Our Board: Help to shape the Future of Education!

South Thames Colleges Group, one of London’s largest providers of post-16 education, is seeking dynamic individuals to join our Governing Body. With four main campuses – Carshalton, Kingston, Merton, and South Thames College – we proudly serve over 10,000 students and are rated "Good" by Ofsted, with Outstanding Financial Health.

We’re on the lookout for commercially savvy people from diverse industries (including health, construction, manufacturing, engineering, or digital sectors) and diverse backgrounds. We’re keen to find people who want to help us achieve the ambitions of more students and partners than ever before, transforming diversity into success, growing wellness, and inspiring students to thrive.

What's in it for you?

Governance is a voluntary, unremunerated role, but the personal rewards of contributing to the college’s mission are immeasurable.

Skills Description
We need:
• Governors with sector expertise in industries where many of our students aspire to build their careers.
• One governor with legal experience.
• One governor with safeguarding experience.
• One governor with a track record in race relations, inclusion, and tackling inequality.

No previous governance or education experience required – just a passion for education and a commitment to inclusion!

We very much welcome applicants from ethnic minority communities, a range of cultural backgrounds and expect our governors to be committed to inclusion. We’re on the lookout for commercially savvy people from diverse industries (including health, construction, manufacturing, engineering, or digital sectors) and diverse backgrounds.

What's the time commitment and where?

The time commitment varies according to how many roles each governor takes on, in terms of committee and link governor roles, but we suggest that it probably adds up to about 7-10 days a year in total. That takes place in term time only and allows for a couple of hours attending each meeting and a couple of hours reading papers for each meeting.
