The ‘Core20’ approach is an NHS initiative designed to drive targeted action in healthcare improvement. This project is all about working in four local areas in the London Borough of Sutton with key partner organisations, charities and health providers to improve the health and wellbeing of people in these communities.
Interested in volunteering with this project as a Community Health Ambassador? Please give us your details here and one of the team will be in touch soon.
What We Do
Led by our Community Health Coordinator, we arrange or attend key health events across the borough to provide much needed health awareness information sessions as well as health & wellbeing activities to support those most in need. We work with a wide range of community groups including refugee and migrant groups, resident’s groups, senior’s groups, BAME groups and religious groups etc. We coordinate health sessions (typically on a fortnightly basis) and we also attend key events across London Borough of Sutton such as the Ecofair and health awareness events such as Healthy You (at the Phoenix Centre in Roundshaw). This project is run in partnership with NHS South West London Integrated Care System.
How We Help
Our Volunteer Community Health Ambassadors will make a huge difference in improving the health outcomes and quality of life of those most in need in our local communities.
There are a broad range of health topics/services covered within the various sessions with the aim of improving health outcomes. These include:
- Maternity support in the community
- Improving physical health outcomes for those with severe mental health
- COPD awareness and advice to stop smoking
- Cancer screening awareness
- Diabetes awareness
- Weight loss and management awareness & activities
- Introduction to Social Prescriber Link Workers
- Menopause awareness and support
- Arthritis awareness and introduction to physiotherapy
We tailor our sessions to the needs of the various groups. We collaborate with health experts to deliver the relevant information with the support of the volunteers working on this project.
We are looking for a wide network of local “Volunteer Community Health Ambassadors” based in Sutton, Carshalton, Wallington and Belmont who can help us understand the needs of the local population and who can also help organise and deliver the health sessions and support for the community groups. We would particularly love to hear from anyone with any lived experience of the above health issues.
