MAPS Mentoring: Proven Social Value for Sutton’s Young People

A new study shows MAPS generates £7.37 of social value for every £1 invested – improving lives, strengthening families, and building a more connected community.

We are delighted to share the results of a major Social Value Analysis (SVA) study that confirms what we’ve long believed - MAPS Mentoring is changing lives and creating lasting impact across Sutton.

The study calculated that for every £1 invested in MAPS, an impressive £7.37 of social value is generated. This means the time, energy, and resources poured into our programme are paying off – not just for the young people we support, but for their families, our dedicated Volunteer Mentors, and the wider community.

The report reveals significant improvements in emotional wellbeing, school engagement, relationships, and a reduction in risky behaviours among young people. It also shines a light on how mentoring has brought positive changes for parents and carers, helped ease pressure on local services, and inspired volunteers with new skills and confidence.

As Sutton continues to focus on early help and prevention, this research proves that mentoring is a powerful tool for long-term change. The ripple effects of MAPS stretch far beyond the mentoring pair, strengthening families and building a brighter future for everyone involved.

This report will not only shape the future of MAPS, but help us share our story with funders, partners, and supporters – providing robust evidence of the difference mentoring really makes.
