Volunteer with Start Well Sutton's Family Hubs and Children's Centres: Help run sessions from pregnancy groups to coffee mornings and stay-and-play, offering parents and families vital support, connection and encouragement.

About Organisation

Start Well Sutton Family Hubs and Children's Centres provide support for families from pregnancy, through to the young person turning 18 years old or 25 if they have a SEND need.

What you will be doing

You will be a vital extra pair of hands at our sessions, from Bumps & Babies and Stay & Play to Cooking and Parent/Carer coffee mornings. Typical tasks include:

  • Welcoming parents, carers and children to sessions, making them feel comfortable and included.
  • Helping staff set up and run activities.
  • Supporting families to join in activities, encouraging play and interaction.
  • Providing a friendly face and listening ear for parents and carers.
  • Assisting with tidying and packing away resources after sessions.
  • Signposting families to further support and services where appropriate.

What skills will you need?

You don’t need specific qualifications to volunteer – just enthusiasm and a willingness to help. The role is ideal for anyone who enjoys working with people. Skills and qualities that will help you include:

  • A friendly, welcoming and approachable manner.
  • Good listening and communication skills with adults and children.
  • Patience and sensitivity when supporting families from different backgrounds.
  • Reliability and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to support a range of activities, from play sessions to parent coffee mornings.
  • An interest in child development, family life, or community support (helpful but not essential).

Training and guidance will be provided, so you’ll be supported to feel confident in the role.

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment:

Each of our sessions typically last 1-3 hours so we would like you to volunteer forat least one full sesssion a week. As we run multiple sessions, on both mornings and afternoons, this is a very flexible role.

Location:

Our Family Hubs and Children's Centres are located at multiple locations in Sutton.
