As a lunch club helper, you’ll support the team to set up and clear away, serve meals and refreshments and help our members to gain the most from the activities.

What you will be doing

At MHA Communities East Surrey we support older people to live independently in their own homes and communities. We offer a variety of social activities and services for people aged 55 and over. The aim of our lunch clubs is to help improve the quality of life for older people who may be socially isolated. As a lunch club helper, you’ll support the team to set up and clear away, serve meals and refreshments and help our members to gain the most from the activities.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

• Help prepare the room and tidy up afterwards
• Welcome members and support them to take off their coats
• Set tables for lunch, and to clear and tidy the tables after
• Serve lunches and refreshments
• Support the members with activities
• Collect raffle money
• Undertake all training, or support meetings, as agreed with the person who supports you
• Follow health and safety, food hygiene and other policies relating to your role

Training, support, and requirements:

• You need to be aged 16 or over
• Two character references are required
• Ongoing support from a named contact
• We will provide you with a full induction for the role
• Training on safeguarding, health and safety and other training relevant to the role
 
*Please note- we can only accept applications from volunteers who currently live in the UK*
 
Age Range: We can accept applications for under 18s, including from 16+.

Skills Description
• Good communication and people skills • Patience, empathy and understanding of the needs of older people • The ability to engage yourself and others in a wide range of activities • You’ll be reliable and punctual • You’ll be willing to join in with training and development • You’ll be able to maintain confidentiality

What's the time commitment and where? 

• Redhill Lunch Club- Redhill Methodist Church, Gloucester Rd, Redhill RH1 1BP- Wednesdays from 10.30am-1.30pm
• Reigate Lunch Club- Reigate Methodist Church Centre- 53 High St, Reigate RH2 9AE- Thursdays from 10.30am -1.30pm
• We ask you to be able to commit on a regular basis for a minimum of six months
