What you will be doing

Member of the Governing Board for Sherwood Park School - a warm and friendly, all age foundation special school in Wallington / Carshalton, with high aspirations for our fantastic pupils.

The Board act as critical friends to the Senior Leadership Team, providing strategic direction and challenge with oversight of the education provided by, and financial management of, the school.

We meet five times a year in the evenings as a full board; all governors are also asked to attend a strategy day in May and also be on two of our main committees - Finance; Premises, Health & Safety; Curriculum & Staffing.

You may also be asked to sit on panels to hear complaints, grievances or staff disciplinaries - although these are, thankfully, rare events.

Do you have:
• a passion for education – particularly for students with the most profound disabilities;
• experience of chairing committees / boards;
• team spirit and a sense of humour;
• a willingness to learn and develop - training will be provided;
• the time and energy to support the school.

Skills Description
We need people with experience of leadership and management at a senior level. For at least one of the role we really need someone with significant financial management at a senior level in a medium sized organisation.

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment

This varies. In person evening meetings are 2 hours long roughly every 4-6 weeks, and need several hours of reading / preparation in your own time . Plus you will be invited to come into school for visits at least once a year. On average it may work out as being three hours per week - some weeks none, other weeks more; mostly in the evenings.
