About the Organisation
Sherwood Park School
What you will be doing
The Board act as critical friends to the Senior Leadership Team, providing strategic direction and challenge with oversight of the education provided by, and financial management of, the school.
We meet five times a year in the evenings as a full board; all governors are also asked to attend a strategy day in May and also be on two of our main committees - Finance; Premises, Health & Safety; Curriculum & Staffing.
You may also be asked to sit on panels to hear complaints, grievances or staff disciplinaries - although these are, thankfully, rare events.
Do you have:
• a passion for education – particularly for students with the most profound disabilities;
• experience of chairing committees / boards;
• team spirit and a sense of humour;
• a willingness to learn and develop - training will be provided;
• the time and energy to support the school.
If you are interested in joining our friendly team, please do get in touch; we would love to meet you and have a discussion about the role.
We are particularly looking for people with expert knowledge of:
- Finance
- HR
- Safeguarding
What's in it for you?
The enormous satisfaction of helping some of the most disadvantaged children / young people in our society, supporting the staff who devote their lives to these young people.
What skills will you need?
What's the time commitment and where?
Time Commitment
This varies. In person evening meetings are 2 hours long roughly every 4-6 weeks, and need several hours of reading / preparation in your own time . Plus you will be invited to come into school for visits at least once a year. On average it may work out as being three hours per week - some weeks none, other weeks more; mostly in the evenings.
