Offer companionship and conversation to isolated older people in Sutton, and empower them to gain a social and support network they can connect with, or to settle back at home after a stay in hospital.

This could be a role for you if you have at least 2 hours free per week?

Offer companionship and conversation to isolated older people in Sutton, and empower them to gain a social and support network they can connect with, or to settle back at home after a stay in hospital.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
- Provide wellbeing check-ins to isolated older people (from 1 up to 8 months).
- Empower clients to gain a social and support network they can connect with, or to settle back at home after a stay in hospital.
- Offer companionship and conversation over the phone or in person.
- Conduct evaluation interviews with clients, volunteers and older Sutton residents to ensure their views and experiences are heard.
- Submit feedback forms and pass on any questions or concerns.
- Participate in supervisions as well as learning and development.
- Minimum commitment: From 1 hour per week, depending on activity.

- Warm and friendly manner.
- Excellent communication skills and enjoy talking to people.
- Comfortable using the phone and have basic IT skills.
- Able to listen with patience and empathy, without judgement.
- Able to commit to a set period of time if matched with a client.
- Can offer reliability and commitment to the values and policies of Age UK Sutton, including holding appropriate boundaries, and understanding confidentiality and
safeguarding (training provided).

No formal experience is necessary but the skills required of the volunteer are: -An understanding of the groups values and objectives -Excellent written and verbal communication skills -Computer literate and comfortable with basic word packages -Being able to work as part of a small team -Punctuality

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment
Minimum commitment: From 1 hour per week.

Main office: Age UK Sutton, Sutton Gate, 1 Carshalton Rd, Sutton (This role offers opportunities for community volunteering)

Disability and Access Support: Our office is accessible. Our Head of Volunteering is a trained Mental Health First Aider. We welcome opportunities to discuss any learning or support needs with those interested in volunteering with us, subject to role requirements. PLEASE NOTE that this role is partly or mainly home and/or community based and so accessibility is dependant on location."
