Class teacher (recognised ESOL qualification required) - weekly - Refugee & Migrant Network Sutton (RMNS)

About the Organisation

Refugee & Migrant Network Sutton (RMNS) ​offers friendship, advice and free ESOL classes to refugees, asylum seekers and newly settled migrants in the London Borough of Sutton.

What you will be doing

Over 120 adults attend our free English language classes with levels ranging from beginners to ESOL level 3 (equivalent). These are informal lessons without an examination focus. As a class teacher, supported by one or two class assistants, you will be:
  • Planning and delivering engaging ESOL lessons tailored to the needs and abilities of adult learners.
  • Creating a welcoming, inclusive and supportive learning environment where learners feel encouraged to participate and develop confidence.
  • Using a range of teaching resources and activities to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
  • Encouraging learners to practise English in real-life situations to promote independence and integration within the community.

What skills will you need?

  • Recognised ESOL teaching qualification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy and the ability to support learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to plan engaging lessons.
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming learning environment.

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment:

2 hours once a week in term time plus perhaps 1 hour preparation time

Either Tuesday morning in Carshalton (10.00am - 12.00pm) or Wednesday morning (10.00am - 12.00pm) in Sutton
