Coram Beanstalk
What you will be doing
Coram Beanstalk is a national children's reading charity with over 50 years' experience in creating readers through our one-to-one, in-person reading support. We know, and evidence shows that when children not only can read but choose to read, it has an impact on how well they do at school, how they feel about themselves and leads to better life chances.
To become a reader, children need to spend time sharing and talking about lots of different books and have fun exploring them with someone who gives them dedicated attention.
Coram Beanstalk knows how to do this. We share our knowledge through training and supporting community volunteers, parents and older students, giving them the skills to enable children to become confident readers for life.
We create readers, because when a child becomes a reader, they get the very best chance in life and every child deserves that.
What's in it for you?
Our trained volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Each week they deliver fun, interactive, reading experiences. They provide one to one support to children, who are behind, giving them the help and encouragement they need to catch up - to switch onto reading, learn to read and become readers for life. Our reading helpers give children a chance to shine... sharing, talking and having fun with books to help them see the point of reading. Their commitment and dedication helps to bring forth a new generation of readers with the confidence they need to succeed in life. We are Coram Beanstalk. We create readers. Join us!
What skills will you need?
What's the time commitment and where?
Time Commitment
At least one afternoon a week (term time only) and at least one full year.
Role Address
Local primary schools.
Disability and Access Support
We will work with local schools to support disability and access requirements.
