What you will be doing

Would you like to help keep Sutton green and full of wildlife, plants and animals?

Help boost the urban biodiversity of Sutton by undertaking practical habitat management at Beddington Farmlands.

Beddington Farmlands Conservation Volunteers are working to manage and enhance the variety of habitats to boost the urban biodiversity of Sutton.

We use a variety of hand tools to coppice woodland, scythe reedbeds, reclaim long neglected meadows and seed newly created wetland habitats.

During the spring and summer months there is also a chance to get involved with ecological monitoring of habitats and species.

Undertaking practical habitat management using a variety of hand tools.

We welcome anyone keen to help with the practical conservation or ecological monitoring of the site. Should you like to get involved but feel there are barriers to you doing so please email me to discuss how we can help you.

What's in it for you?

You will develop key practical skills and knowledge of the conservation sector. We will teach you how to use the tools and equipment safely and how to look after yourself and those around you. For those interested in ecology and habitat management you will learn why we do the things we do and how we expect it to affect the biodiversity end ecological communities of the site. Furthermore we will show you how to identify a wide variety of plant and animal species.

At present it is very difficult for us to support volunteers with additional requirements. This is due to the very challenging and ever changing ground conditions on site. However, if you as an individual feel that you would like to see the site and judge for yourself I am more than happy to arrange this with you.

What's the time commitment and where?

Time Commitment

Task days will run from 10am - 3pm. We will meet every first Wednesday of the month and then weekly on Tuesdays thereafter. We do not expect volunteers to attend every session within the month but do ask that volunteers commit to attending at least once a month to keep up the skills.
