What you will be doing

The Fantastic Freddie Foundation gives young disabled people the chance to engage in age appropriate opportunities and activities - to help them better enjoy their lives and have a valuable social life. We run a whole range of events and activities. As a volunteer you will be helping and accompanying young disabled adults at these events, making sure they are safe, happy and enjoying themselves as much as possible. You will meaningfully engage with our service users, making them feel confident and comfortable in whatever they’re doing. If admin is more your sort of thing please still consider volunteering! We are run by 1 employee so always need help around the office.

We welcome anyone of all abilities, ages, ethnicities and religions. As long as you have a passion to help people then you’re welcome. We especially welcome volunteers who are disabled themselves, all our services and our office are suitable for people with additional and access needs. We have had young disabled people volunteer with us recently and were able to enjoy the day around their peers whilst providing a brilliant and well needed helping hand.

Skills Description
It is imperative to have good people skills and be patient as many of our service users have communication needs. You need to be honest and don’t pretend you know what they have said if you don’t! Experience communicating or working with disabled people is preferred, but absolutely not required. As long as you are open minded and have a willingness to learn then we would love to have you on board.

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment

There is no specific time commitment, you can be as involved as you would like. We usually have a maximum of two events or services a month and always need help setting up or accompanying the group on the day. Our events vary in time, we have whole day services like festival trips and football matches, and shorter services such as sports days and wellness afternoons. As long as you can commit to the full length of the service you sign up to help at - you can choose which ones you are available for.

1 Parker Close, Carshalton, SM53HF. A small close in between numbers 58 and 60 Salisbury Road.

 

Disability and Access Support

All the events we put on are fully accessible and planned with people with additional needs in mind, so if a volunteer has access or additional needs that won’t be an issue. Our office is also fully accessible.
