Help young disabled adults have fun and live their best lives at our events! Volunteering with The Fantastic Freddie Foundation is a fun and rewarding role - a brilliant chance to give back to an underserved community whilst enjoying yourself.

About the Organisation

The Fantastic Freddie Foundation provides regular social and leisure opportunities for young disabled adults in Sutton and surrounding boroughs so they are able to live their best lives and have fun.

What you will be doing

You will be supporting the session leads during sessions and events, helping ensure everyone attending is happy, safe and engaging in the activities on offer. Your responsibilities will include:
 
  • Setting up / packing down
  • Getting involved with activities
  • Ensuring everyone is engaging with the session
  • Interact with attendees and building a rapport with them
  • Leading a specific workshop / group
  • Ensuring everyons is happy and safe
  • Reporting any queries or worries to the session lead

We welcome anyone of all abilities, ages, ethnicities and religions. As long as you have a passion to help people then you’re welcome. We especially welcome volunteers who are disabled themselves, all our services and our office are suitable for people with additional and access needs. We have had young disabled people volunteer with us recently and were able to enjoy the day around their peers whilst providing a brilliant and well needed helping hand.

The most important part of this role is that you are friendly and patient with the participants. We want our members to see you as a peer who they can trust and enjoy spending time with you. Experience communicating or working with disabled people is preferred, but absolutely not required. As long as you are open minded and have a willingless to learn then we would love to have you on board.
 
Minimum age 18
Priority will be given to potential volunteers aged 18-35 as we like to match staff / volunteer age with our participants.
 
We will carry out an Enhanced DBS check for all our volunteers. All volunteers will be expected to complete the Safeguarding and Induction training, and sign our volunteers handbook and code of conduct.

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment:

There is no specific time commitment, we usually need a volunteer for 3-4 events/sessions every month. This rises signficantly during summer when we have our weekend and day trips out.

Here is an idea of what we need and where:

  • Mondays and Wednesdays 5.30pm - 8.30pm @ PFA Hub, Sutton Life Centre, 24 Alconr Close, Sutton SM3 9PX
  • Last Thursday of every month 6pm - 10pm @The Robin Hood Pub, 52 West Street, Sutton SM1 1SH

We also have lots of events at weekends!

  • The Vault Mordon, 102 London Road, Morden SM4 5AX
  • Sutton United FC, The VBS Community Stadium, Gander Green Lane, Sutton SM1 2EY

We have lots of festival trips and days out in the summer that we need volunteers for - most will include transport and will meet in Sutton.

Various locations depending on the session/event venue. Our main office is at 8 Stanely Park Road, Wallington, Surrey SM6 0EU
