Croydon Airport was London and the UK's first purpose built international airport. We are looking to increase the number of our volunteer Trustees to lead the organisation through the next stage of its development. These are "hands-on" working positions. The positions are unremunerated and for an initial period of 3 years.

What you will be doing

HCAT is the Charitable Incorporated Organisation established to operate the hugely popular Croydon Airport Visitor Centre and archives. Croydon Airport was London and the UK's first purpose built international airport.

We are looking to increase the number of our volunteer Trustees to lead the organisation through the next stage of its development. These are "hands-on" working positions. The positions are unremunerated and for an initial period of 3 years.

We seek enthusiastic people with skills in one or more of , Museum management; Archive Management , Business Planning, IT and Administration skills. Working hours are flexible as per the voluntary nature of the position. Trustee Meetings are every 2 months and Open Days are on 1st Sunday of every month.

Historic Croydon Airport Trust preserves the legacy of London Croydon Airport, Britain's first major international airport. The airport played a crucial role in the development of global air travel post World War One and holds significant historical value in early 20th century British aviation history. As the predecessor to London Heathrow Airport, it was a bustling hub during the inter-war period.

Role Description

This is a volunteer Board Trustee role at Historic Croydon Airport Trust, located in Croydon with the flexibility for some remote work. The Board Trustee will be responsible for contributing to the governance and strategic direction of the organization, attending board meetings, participating in decision-making processes, and supporting the mission and objectives of the Trust. We are looking to increase the number of our volunteer Trustees to lead the organisation through the next stage of its development. These are "hands-on" working positions. The positions are unremunerated and for an initial period of 3 years.

Skills Description
Previous experience of being a Trustee preferred, and knowledge of the role of Trustee. Qualifications Strategic planning, governance, and decision-making skills. Financial literacy and budget management experience is a plus. Experience in fundraising or grant writing. Knowledge or interest in aviation history and heritage preservation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Previous experience serving on boards or committees. Background in heritage conservation, history, or related fields is a plus.

Time Commitment

10-20 hours per month, incl 1 meeting per month
