Young/Young Adult Carers Administration Volunteer - Sutton Carers Centre

Young/Young Adult Carers are children and young people (8-25), who care for a family member with a long-term illness, disability, mental health condition, substance use. Our Young Carers service provides essential support and respite.

About the Organisation

Sutton Carers Centre is an independent charity dedicated to supporting unpaid Carers in the London Borough of Sutton. They offer a wide range of free services to assist individuals who provide care to family members or friends due to illness, disability, or other challenges.

What you will be doing

As a Young/Young Adult Carer Administration Volunteer, you will provide vital administrative support to our Young Carers Service. Typical tasks include:
 
  • Update and maintain the Charity Log database with current contact details for Young Carers and their families.
  • Help create and distribute flyers, posters, and newsletters to keep Young Carers informed about upcoming activities and support services.
  • Assist staff in booking and organising events, workshops, and trips, ensuring all logistical details are in place.
  • Contact Young Carers and their families to confirm attendance, provide information, and gather feedback.
  • Support group sessions and activities by preparing materials and helping create a welcoming, safe environment.

What skills will you need?

We’re looking for friendly, team‑oriented people who have an understanding of Carer issues, and want to work directly with children and young people who are Young or Young Adult Carers, and their families. While previous administrative experience is helpful, it’s not essential. Key skills for this role include:

  • Comfortable speaking with a wide range of people of all ages and backgrounds, both in person and on the phone.
  • Experience of working with children and young people.
  • A calm, approachable, and friendly manner.
  • Good listening skills and empathy.
  • Basic IT skills (internet, email, Microsoft 365); training and support will be provided.
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training and follow the Centre’s policies on Confidentiality, Safeguarding, and Equal Opportunities & Diversity.
  • An enhanced DBS check (arranged and paid for by Sutton Carers Centre).

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment:

We are looking for people who would like to volunteer on a regular (weekly/monthly) basis for at least half a day a week.
