Gardening Assistant at Honeywood Museum - Sutton Cultural Services

Volunteer to help maintain and restore Honeywood Museum’s historic garden. Join our restoration project, started in 2021, and preserve this unique Victorian and 20th-century heritage.

About the Organisation

Sutton Council's Cultural Services manages and promotes the borough's libraries, museums, and archives, and supports and promotes arts and heritage within Sutton.

What you will be doing

We are looking for volunteers to help us as we continue in clearing, tending and replanting the garden, which will involve a range of tasks including:

  • Weeding, pruning and general garden maintenance
  • Helping to prepare the garden for events and open days
  • Assisting with planting
The garden at Honeywood has had a long history. Some elements, such as the rectangular pond in the back corner date back to the 18th century. However, the greater part of the surviving features were created by the Kirk family and date from the Victorian period into the 20th century. This includes raised beds and the remains of a greenhouses which were part of an unusually well preserved middle class garden. We started work on restoration in 2021 and we are looking for volunteers to continue and develop the project.

What's in it for you?
