Community Volunteer Squad - Volunteer Centre Sutton

Do you enjoy doing a good deed? We’re looking for local people to support others with one-off tasks such as DIY, gardening, assembling, driving, or simple fixes — all at times that suit you. Tasks are shared regularly via WhatsApp, and you can pick and choose the ones that match your location, timings and interests!

About the Organisation

Volunteer Centre Sutton is a local charity dedicated to supporting and promoting volunteering across the London Borough of Sutton. We help local people find the volunteer role that best matches their skills, interests, and availability, while also supporting charities, organisations, and community groups to develop strong volunteer programmes. We also run a number of our own volunteer-led projects, all with the aim of building better lives through volunteering. 

What you will be doing

The Community Volunteer Squad exists to support people who often fall through the gaps, where simple, everyday tasks are not covered by funded services or do not fit neatly into existing support pathways.The tasks can vary from 

  • Gardening - Mowing gardens, raking leaves, planting of flowers or seeds, fence/gate/decking repairs
  • DIY - from general repairs to putting together furniture
  • Driving  - basic collections or deliveries, prescription collections, collecting parcels & post from the Post Office
  • Decluttering - assisting clients with light decluttering and organising of belongings
  • Driving (with volunteers / clients in car) - One-off trips to the Hospital, Doctors, Dentist, Opticians, Physiotherapist
  • One off events - such as tree planting, litter picks and more!

Tasks are published regularly via our Whatsapp Group to all Community Volunteer Squad members.  There is no regular/weekly commitment - as a member of the Community Volunteer Squad you pick and choose which tasks you could volunteer with and at a time that suits you.

What skills will you need?

  • Enthusiastic, reliable "can do" attitude
  • Friendly and empathy as many of the people we support are in challenging situations
  • UK driving licence if you would like to volunteer for driving tasks
  • Have an interest in the local community and a passion for helping others
  • Comfortable with Whatsapp as tasks are published and organised via Whatsapp and Email

What's the time commitment and where? 

This is entirely up to you, you can pick and choose tasks as and when you would like.  The tasks happen all over the London Borough of Sutton.
