About the Organisation
Liberty Choir brings members of the public into prisons across the UK to sing with our choir of musicians, volunteers and prisoners every week. Our sessions are designed to build prisoners’ self-confidence and provide access to new social networks in the wider community.
What you will be doing
You will be singing with our team of exceptional musicians, and the prisoners every week throughout the year.
The Liberty Choir team will provide you with all the guidance you need for your first visit.
What's in it for you?
With your help, we can support even more prisoners as they serve their sentences.
We know that attending Liberty Choir has a significant impact on reducing reoffending rates. Our sessions are designed to:
- Help develop prisoners’ skills and self-confidence
- Improve literacy, maths and music appreciation
- Provide access to new social networks when they re-enter the wider community
The sessions are FUN as well as rewarding!
What skills will you need?
The choir sings from lyric sheets as well as learning songs by heart and has a wide repertoire from swing and gospel to pop and classical.
You don't need musical skills or experience, but a love of music and singing is desirable.
Volunteers need an open mind and a non-judgemental approach to prisons and inmates.
A supportive, positive and caring attitude is essential.
DBS required.
