Reception & Admin Volunteer - Sutton Vision

Friendly, engaging volunteer needed to support Sutton Vision with admin tasks and weekly calls, helping people affected by sight loss stay connected and informed — build skills and make a real community impact!

About the Organisation

Sutton Vision is a local charity offering information, advice and support to anyone affected by sight loss in the London Borough of Sutton. We provide a tailored package of support that can include help navigating treatment options, employment support, help with benefits and forms, advice on technical aids and a range of adapted social activities to alleviate isolation.

Volunteers are vital to our services, supporting activities, befriending and our team. In our 60th anniversary year, Sutton Vision received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, recognising our outstanding support for visually impaired people.

What you will be doing

Your core activities:

  • Welcome visitors into Sutton Vision, directing visitors to their activities and recording attendance data on our database, Lamplight.
  • Make calls to service users to flag up future activities and take part in regular surveys/outcomes monitoring.
  • Answer the phone and route calls to relevant staff members or pass on messages.
  • Ordering stationery and other essential supplies.

As time permits/occassional tasks:

  • General admin: photocopying, shredding, laminating signs, updating weekly activities board.
  • Support staff with Contact Magazine mailshot and other adhoc leaflets and promotions.
  • Update our Lamplight database with scanned documents and clinic attendances.
  • Counting petty cash and cash donations into SV.

What skills will you need?

  • Welcoming & friendly approach, excellent communication and listening skills, honest and trustworthy.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and databases.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Experience of sight loss not essential but empathy and understanding will be essential – induction and training will be given.
  • References and a DBS are required for this role. 

Note: It is expected that all volunteers undertake volunteering in accordance with the values of the Charity and adhere to Sutton Vision’s Code of Conduct.

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment

We would ask you to volunteer for 2/3 hours per week, on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, between the hours of 10am and 3pm, at a time that suits you.
