Reception & Admin Volunteer - Sutton Vision

Support Sutton Vision’s friendly office team by welcoming visitors, assisting with light admin and making reminder calls. Your help will support visually impaired colleagues and keep services running smoothly.

About the Organisation

Sutton Vision is a local charity offering information, advice and support to anyone affected by sight loss in the London Borough of Sutton. We provide a tailored package of support that can include help navigating treatment options, employment support, help with benefits and forms, advice on technical aids and a range of adapted social activities to alleviate isolation.

Volunteers are vital to our services, supporting activities, befriending and our team. In our 60th anniversary year, Sutton Vision received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, recognising our outstanding support for visually impaired people.

What you will be doing

Core activities

  • Welcoming visitors to Sutton Vision and helping them feel comfortable and supported.
  • Acting as an extra pair of eyes in the office and helping staff know when visitors arrive.
  • Helping out with admin for our activity programme, such as making reminder calls to service users about upcoming activities, or logging attendance sheets.
  • Answering the phone and passing messages to the relevant team member.
  • Helping keep essential supplies such as stationery stocked.

Occasional tasks (as time permits and depending what you feel comfortable with)

  • General admin such as photocopying, shredding or laminating.
  • Supporting staff with Contact Magazine mailouts and other leaflets.
  • Updating our database with scanned documents and clinic attendances.
  • Assisting with simple cash counting alongside staff.

What skills will you need?

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Have a warm, friendly and approachable manner.
  • Enjoy welcoming and chatting with people.
  • Feel comfortable working in a small office environment.
  • Have basic Microsoft Office or database skills (or are willing to learn).
  • Are organised, reliable and happy to work as part of a team.
  • Show empathy and understanding towards people affected by sight loss.

Experience of sight loss is not required — full induction and training will be provided.

References and a DBS check are required for this role.

Note: It is expected that all volunteers undertake volunteering in accordance with the values of the Charity and adhere to Sutton Vision’s Code of Conduct.

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment

We would ask you to volunteer for 2/3 hours per week, on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, between the hours of 10am and 2/3pm, at a time that suits you.
