Volunteer to help with refreshments - Sutton Music Festival

Help is needed with setting up the refreshments, serving refreshments, taking payments, clearing away, and keeping records of purchases. This is required for the weekends of Sat 8/Sun 9/Sat 15/Sun 16/Sat 22/Sun 23 November 2025, during the Festival.

About the Organisation

Sutton Music Festival is an annual celebration of music and drama held every year over three weekends in November, with classes in choral, vocal, piano, instrumental, and speech & drama.

What you will be doing

  • Help is needed to serve refreshments on Saturdays and Sundays during the Festival (Sat 8/Sun 9/Sat 15/Sun 16/Sat 22/Sun 23 November 2025).
  • The Festival mainly takes place at Overton Grange School, but there are also sessions at Homefield School, Western Road Sutton, and at Holy Trinity Church in Wallington.
  • Helpers volunteer for as many sessions as they wish, (a session being a morning, afternoon or evening) but please offer help for two sessions or more.
  • We serve refreshments to the public and to volunteer staff.
  • Public refreshments are provided for sale, throughout the Festival as far as possible, but particularly during the lunch and tea breaks.
  • Refreshments consist of tea/ coffee, soft drinks, biscuits, crisps, chocolates and cakes. A hot water urn is provided at Overton Grange.
  • Payment is made by cash or using a card reader.
  • Volunteers need to help with setting up the refreshments, serving refreshments, taking payments, clearing away, and keeping records of purchases.
  • Help is also needed to provide refreshments (tea/coffee and biscuits) volunteers on duty, and adjudicators during break times.
  • Volunteers work as part of a team managed by our Refreshments Officer and help and support is provided.

What's in it for you?

This role will especially appeal to volunteers who are interested in (mainly) classical music and speech and drama, and who want to see these arts flourish in Sutton. There are opportunities to watch performances by some highly gifted young (and older!) entrants. You will develop skills in dealing with the public, working as part of a team, and handling sales and a card reader.

What skills will you need?

Volunteers need to be able to engage well with members of the public, pick the tasks up quickly, get on well with others and be mutually supportive. They need to be able to learn to handle cash and card purchases. A cheerful disposition is needed.

Age Range: We welcome applications from under 18s, including from 16+.
