Meeter-Greeter Volunteer - Sutton Carers Centre

Be a friendly first face for unpaid Carers — those supporting family or friends with illness, disability, or other challenges. As a Meeter-Greeter Volunteer, you’ll help create a welcoming environment, ensuring every visitor to Sutton Carers Centre feels comfortable and supported from the moment they arrive.

About the Organisation

Sutton Carers Centre is an independent charity dedicated to supporting unpaid Carers in the London Borough of Sutton. We offer a wide range of free services to assist individuals who provide care to family members or friends due to illness, disability, or other challenges.

What you will be doing

As a Meeter-Greeter Volunteer, you’ll provide a warm welcome to Carers, visitors, and professionals arriving at Sutton Carers Centre. You’ll help people find where they need to go, assist them in using stairs or lifts, and make sure their first experience of the Centre is positive and reassuring.

  • Welcome visitors, Carers, and staff in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Assist visitors to sign in, recording simple visitor information and inform staff or group facilitators of their arrival.
  • Accompany visitors upstairs or assist them to use the lift safely to reach Sutton Carers Centre rooms.
  • Help participants find the right room for Carer groups and activities.
  • Offer refreshments (tea, coffee, or water) and help visitors feel comfortable while they wait.
  • Keep reception and waiting areas tidy, welcoming, and stocked with leaflets.
  • Hand out information about Sutton Carers Centre services or direct visitors to the right staff member.
  • Support with light administrative tasks (printing, photocopying, preparing welcome packs).
  • During quieter periods (e.g. between groups, deliveries, or drop-ins), you can complete optional online training modules on a range of topics.
  • Uphold Sutton Carers Centre’s values of respect, confidentiality, and inclusion.

What's in it for you?

  • A highly rewarding role supporting unpaid Carers in our community.
  • Supervision and support from the Centre Coordinator and Front Desk Team.
  • The opportunity to complete optional online training during quieter shifts.
  • Gain valuable experience in a community-focused organisation.
  • Full induction and ongoing training provided.
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses (within agreed limits).
  • References can be provided after six months of volunteering.

What skills will you need?

We’re looking for friendly, reliable people who enjoy meeting others and helping them feel welcome. No previous experience is needed — full training will be provided.

Key qualities include:

  • Friendly, patient, and approachable manner.
  • Reliable and able to work as part of a supportive team.
  • Physically able to move around the building, including using stairs.

  • A basic DBS check (arranged and paid for by Sutton Carers Centre).
