Front of House Volunteer - Historic Croydon Airport Trust

As a Front Desk Volunteer, you will be the welcoming face of Historic Croydon Airport, responsible for ensuring visitors have a smooth and enjoyable experience. You will manage visitor check-ins, handle donations, and support merchandising activities.

About the Organisation

Historic Croydon Airport Trust is the Charitable Incorporated Organisation established to operate the hugely popular Croydon Airport Visitor Centre and archives. Croydon Airport was London and the UK's first purpose built international airport.

What you will be doing

Reception Duties

  • Welcome visitors, check pre-bookings, and keep the desk staffed.
  • Update booking sheets, set out the donation box, and maintain leaflets/supplies.
  • For booked visitors: check them in, take £8 donations, answer questions, direct them to the Waiting Area, and ensure groups stay within 12 people.
  • For unbooked visitors: explain pre-booking requirements, check for spare slots, advise return times, allow waiting outside for no-shows, and provide next Open Day info.
  • Thank departing visitors and encourage Tripadvisor reviews.

Merchandising Duties

  • Set up, run, and pack away the merchandise stall.
  • Retrieve and return stock from cupboards.
  • Handle float and takings; cash up securely and give cash to a Trustee.
  • Monitor stock levels and notify when items run low.

One Sunday a month.
