About the Organisation
Volunteer Centre Sutton’s Wellbeing Support project provides tailored support to promote independence, via a monthly home-visiting service for older adults in Wallington (or the SM6 postcode), many of whom may be housebound or experiencing poor health or mobility.
What you will be doing
Our volunteers build trusted relationships through regular check-ins helping people find the right support, stay connected to the community, and make informed choices about things that matter to them. Volunteers will raise any concerns with their coordinator, allowing timely referral to professional services.
Following introduction, you will drop in on your allocated individuals once a month. Through relaxed, friendly conversations, you will get to know what’s important to each person and share helpful information on topics such as staying safe at home, social opportunities, avoiding scams, and health and welfare services.
What's in it for you?
- Make a meaningful difference to the lives of older and housebound people in your local community.
- Gain valuable experience and training in community wellbeing, safeguarding and local support services.
- Enjoy a flexible volunteering role that fits around your other commitments.
- Receive regular and ongoing support and training from the Wellbeing Support Coordinators, and the opportunity to meet other like-minded volunteers.
- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses such as mileage or public transport costs.
What skills will you need?
- A positive attitude towards older people and adults who need support, and a willingness to help.
- A warm, friendly, and patient manner.
- Good listening and communication skills.
- The ability to set clear and appropriate boundaries.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to complete simple records, report any concerns, and manage basic paperwork.

Due to the vulnerable nature of the people we support, you will need to undergo a vetting process including an interview and we will require two references. Further details will be discussed with you at recruitment.
