LEGO® Engineering Club Session Leader - Sutton Cultural Services

Help run fun LEGO® engineering and coding sessions for children aged 8–12. Inspire creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving in a relaxed, supportive club setting.

About the Organisation

Sutton Cultural Services runs libraries and community activities across Sutton. We create welcoming spaces where children and families can learn new skills, explore creativity, and have fun together.

What you will be doing

As a LEGO® Engineering Club volunteer, you will:

  • Help lead weekly LEGO® Engineering Club sessions for up to 12 children aged 8–12
  • Create a friendly, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere
  • Support children to build LEGO® models and learn simple coding to complete challenges
  • Encourage creativity, teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving
  • Support children with different abilities and learning styles
  • Work alongside another volunteer to plan and run sessions
  • Follow ready-made session plans and use the resources provided
  • Take part in full training before you start, with guidance on leading sessions and safeguarding
  • Receive ongoing support and advice from library staff outside of session times
  • Help make sure sessions are safe, organised, and enjoyable

You’ll never be on your own — sessions are always run by two volunteers together, and support is always available.

What's in it for you?

  • Great experience if you’re interested in STEM, teaching, youth work, or creative careers.
  • Build confidence leading and supporting groups of children.
  • Learn new skills in facilitation, teamwork, and communication.
  • Make a real difference by helping children feel confident and curious.
  • Boost your CV with hands-on experience in STEM education and youth activities.

What skills will you need?

You don’t need to be a coding expert — training is provided. We’re mainly looking for people who:

  • Enjoy working with children and young people
  • Feel confident speaking to and guiding groups of children aged 8–12
  • Are patient, positive, and happy to help others learn
  • Are reliable and able to commit to a weekly session
  • Enjoy practical, creative activities like building and problem-solving

Experience with children (e.g. youth work, teaching, clubs, parentling, volunteering) is helpful but not essential — enthusiasm and willingness to learn are what matter most.

Age: 18+

DBS: Required (provided at no cost)

What's the time commitment and where?
