English Speakers for English Conversation Tea/Coffee Club supporting Afghan women - Volunteer Centre Sutton (Afghan Community Support)

To support the Afghan Women community we are looking for ladies to volunteer to come along to our English Conversation Tea/Coffee Club to have a chat over tea/coffee with women from the Afghan community so that they can practice their English between their English classes which they're currently attending. You just need to be interested in supporting the Afghan Women's community, patient and willing to help make conversation and role play situations.

About the Organisation

Our Afghan Community support project supports those who have come from Afghanistan to the London Borough of Sutton.

What you will be doing

You will be helping Afghan Women practice their spoken English. Each week there may be a different topic or you may be asked individually to help practice a certain topic. It will be very much be led by yourself and the Afghan ladies - what would you like to talk about? Can you talk about the weather? How do you order a coffee? How can you order a train or bus ticket? Some refreshments will be provided so you can have a chat over a tea or coffee with a biscuit. You will need to be patient as the level of English will vary from very basic (i.e. learning the alphabet and simple words) to having a basic conversation .

What skills will you need?

You will need patience and a willingness to help someone practice their English. You will need to be confident in speaking English but also finding ways to communicate with others. You will need the ability to listen, understand and support. 

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment:

We are looking for volunteers to volunteer on Tuesday afternoon 1pm - 2.30pm at our weekly English Conversation Tea/Coffee Club for Afghan Women.

Location:

The Club will be held at Volunteer Centre Offices at 3rd Floor, Carew House, Railway Approach, Wallington SM6 0DX
