Branch Chair - National Autistic Society (Sutton Branch)

The branch chair role is vital to keeping the branch running smoothly and being able to support autistic people and their families in your local area.

About the Organisation

The National Autistic Society is a UK charity supporting autistic people and families through advice, services, education, and advocacy, while promoting awareness and improving inclusion and understanding of autism in society. We are the Sutton branch of the National Autistic Society (NAS) run entirely by unpaid volunteers, many of whom are parents / carers of autistic children.We provide a local hub where parents, carers and autistic people can get help, access services, support each other and meet other people and families in similar situations.

What you will be doing

  • Planning, arranging, and chairing committee meetings and public meetings.
  • Representing the branch at external meetings e.g. with local services for autistic people.
  • Delegating tasks to other committee members or volunteers.
  • Raising the profile of the NAS within your branch and local community.
  • Supporting fundraising in your branch.
  • Co-ordinating and promoting local campaigns and bringing others on board to help you.

What skills will you need?

  • Confident in volunteering with and communicating with other committee members, and individuals and organisations outside of the branch.
  • Confident and comfortable speaking publicly.
  • Able to motivate people and help people work together.
  • Able to tackle difficult issues and problems and situations and involve other people where necessary.

A DBS check will be required.

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time Commitment:

Flexibility on days and the amount of time committed to the role. The majority of branch chairs give around 5 hours a week but it depends how active the branch is. Home based (plus travel to branch activities)
