About the Organisation
Sutton Mental Health Foundation (SMHF) is a local charity offering non-clinical support to adults in Sutton whose mental health has impacted their lives. We provide peer support, wellbeing activities and a drop in during the day; a crisis cafe every evening, and housing support and community outreach. We promote wellbeing, resilience and recovery.
What you will be doing
You will undertake odd jobs at our much loved premises in Belmont. Current tasks include:
- replacing fire door closers
- mending benches
- hanging pictures
- installing window films
- putting up blinds
- replacing broken draft excluders
We also have some bigger projects planned, which the volunteer handy person is welcome to join in with - including some painting and decorating and making a large art table to go in the hall. Having access to your own tools would be an advantage. This is likely to be a short term or sporadic role (we never know when something might break) but it would be helpful to have someone on call when the need arises.
What's in it for you?
You will be a volunteer in our friendly team, and put your extensive skills to good use to help us maintain a safe space for people experiencing mental health issues in Sutton. There is an opportunity to take part in more creative projects as well.
What skills will you need?
DIY, carpentry/woodworking, painting and decorating, simple plumbing, furniture assembly, tiling, handy person skills, team work, willing to entertain the opinions of others. Own tools would be very helpful.
18+ only. Candiates must be prepared to undertake a DBS check which we will organise.
What's the time commitment and where?
Time commitment:
An hour here and there, mostly weekday daytimes, although we can be flexible around weekends.
Location:
at our premises 63 Downs Road SM2 5NR
