About the Organisation
Carshalton Fruit Pickers is a new group that harvests apples, pears and plums in people's gardens that would otherwise be wasted. We share the surplus with local food banks and charities.
What you will be doing
- Volunteer for a session via our WhatsApp community.
- Join a team of 5 or 6 to pick fruit in someone's garden - usually takes around one hour.
- All tools are provided and a pick leader will guide you.
- We harvest by holding a tarpaulin under the tree and shaking the tree using a pole.
- Sort the fruit - volunteers can keep some if the harvest is sufficient.
- Distribute the fruit to local food banks/ charities.
What's in it for you?
- Be part of a friendly team.
- Meet new people.
- Get to know your neighbourhood.
- Receive some fruit for your efforts.
- Be active outdoors.
- Contribute to relieving food poverty in your community.

What's the time commitment and where?
Time commitment:
Each pick takes around an hour, plus any travel time. They can take place during the day, evenings or at weekends.
The project is running between July and October during the fruit season. You can pick as little or as often as you like during this time.
We advertise each pick in the WhatsApp group and the first 5 or 6 who volunteer are the pick team for that session.
Location:
Picking is in and around Carshalton in the gardens of people who have offered us their trees.
