Self Access Library Support Volunteer - Sutton Cultural Services

As a Self Access Library Support Volunteer, you'll help create a welcoming and supportive environment during the library's Self Access opening hours, when no staff are on site. You'll provide a friendly presence, assist customers with using library facilities, complete library tasks, and help ensure visitors can enjoy a positive library experience. Your contribution will help Sutton Libraries remain welcoming, accessible and inclusive for everyone.

About the Organisation

Sutton Council's Cultural Services manages and promotes the borough's libraries, museums, and archives, and supports and promotes arts and heritage within Sutton.

What you will be doing

  • Welcome customers and provide a friendly, approachable presence during self-access hours.
  • Complete library tasks such as book shelving.
  • Support customers to borrow, return and renew library items using self-service kiosks.
  • Support customers to access public computers, printing facilities and free Wi-Fi.
  • Help customers search for books and other resources using the library catalogue.
  • Answer basic questions about library services and facilities.
  • Refer enquiries outside the volunteer role using the agreed support arrangements.
  • Help maintain a welcoming, safe and tidy library environment.
  • Promote Sutton Libraries and Cultural Services events and services where appropriate.
  • Report incidents or issues in line with agreed procedures.
  • Represent Sutton's Cultural Services in a professional and positive manner.

Please note: Volunteers are not expected to deal with emergencies or challenging situations independently. Full guidance, training and remote staff support will always be available.

Circle Library - Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Library at the Phoenix Centre - Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday
Library at the Sutton Life Centre - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday
Library at the Westcroft Centre - Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday
Wallington Library - Monday and Sunday
Worcester Park Library - Monday, Thursday and Sunday
