Volunteers needed for Local Event for Young People with SEND - Sutton Council

We're looking for friendly and reliable volunteers to support a local Preparation for Adulthood Event for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families in Sutton this November (Thursday 26 November 2026)

About the Organisation

The Preparing for Adulthood event takes place every year and provides information and support to help young people with SEND prepare for adult life, work, health and independence. Part of Sutton Council's SEND Local Offer.

What you will be doing

A key part of this role is helping ensure attendees arrive safely and can easily find their way into the event. Volunteers will support the management of visitor parking and assist with the arrival and departure of school minibuses, families and other attendees.

You will be:

  • Welcoming visitors as they arrive.
  • Directing school minibuses/ coaches and family vehicles to designated parking areas.
  • Helping keep parking and drop-off areas safe, clear and organised.
  • Guiding attendees from the car park to the event entrance.
  • Providing basic information and directing visitors to event staff where needed.
  • Reporting any concerns or issues to event organisers.

A full briefing and guidance will be provided before the event begins.

Important Information

This role involves directing vehicles within the event site only. Volunteers will not be expected to manage traffic on public roads or undertake any enforcement duties. Full support will be available from event organisers throughout the day.

No previous experience is required.

  • Confident communicating with members of the public.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Able to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Calm and professional during busy arrival and departure periods.
  • Comfortable spending time outdoors in November.

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time commitment:

Thursday 26 November 2026. Volunteers are needed for part or all of 7:30am to 3:30pm and can choose from:

  • 2-hour shifts
  • 4-hour shifts
  • Full-day (8-hour) shifts

Refreshments and breaks will be provided for volunteers undertaking longer shifts.
