About the Organisation

Causeway Education helps young people access meaningful careers education and employer encounters, ensuring every student can develop the skills, confidence and connections they need for their future.

What you will be doing

You'll work alongside another volunteer to support a small group of around 10 Year 10 students through a fun, interactive 90-minute workshop focused on building confidence and interview skills.

During the morning, you will:

• Welcome your group and lead a short icebreaker to help students feel comfortable.
• Talk to students about first impressions, interview behaviours and what employers look for.
• Support students through a series of peer-observed mock interviews, giving them a safe and encouraging environment in which to practise.
• Help students give and receive positive, constructive feedback on their interview skills.
• Share practical tips and insights from your own experience of applications, interviews and the workplace.
• Encourage students to reflect on what they've learned and recognise the progress they've made.
• Take a short break with the wider volunteer team before repeating the workshop with a second group of students.

You'll volunteer in a pair throughout, either alongside a colleague/friend or another volunteer we introduce you to.

Don't worry if you've never delivered a workshop or conducted an interview before. We'll provide a briefing beforehand, a clear set of resources to guide you through the session, and support from the Causeway team throughout the morning.

Together, our volunteer team will enable every Year 10 student at the school to take part, giving the whole year group an opportunity to practise their interview skills and learn directly from people in the world of work.

What skills will you need?

No specialist knowledge, qualifications or previous volunteering experience are needed. You don’t need to work in recruitment or HR, or have experience working with young people.

We’re simply looking for volunteers who:

• Are friendly, encouraging and enthusiastic about supporting young people.
• Feel comfortable talking and listening to a small group of students.
• Can offer positive and constructive feedback to help students build their confidence.
• Are happy to share relevant experiences and insights from the world of work.
• Can work collaboratively with another volunteer to guide students through the activities.
• Are willing to follow the workshop resources and guidance provided by the Causeway team.
• Approach students with patience, positivity and an open mind.

We’ll provide an online briefing beforehand, all the resources you need to deliver the workshop, and support throughout the morning. The most important thing you can bring is a willingness to encourage young people and help them recognise their potential.

What's the time commitment and where? 

Time commitment:

This is a one-off volunteering opportunity on Friday 13 November at Harris Academy Sutton.

• Volunteers should aim to arrive at approximately 8:00am for a welcome and briefing with the Causeway team and fellow volunteers.
• The student sessions run from 8:30am to 12:15pm, after which volunteers are free to leave.
• During the morning, you’ll deliver a 90-minute workshop with one group of students, have a short break with the wider volunteer team, and then repeat the workshop with a second group.
• We’ll also ask you to attend a short (~30 mins) online volunteer briefing ahead of the event, which will explain the workshop, walk you through the resources and give you the opportunity to ask any questions.

There is no ongoing commitment after the event.

All materials are provided, so there’s no need to spend additional time preparing your own workshop.
