Community Comes Together for Ukrainian Commemoration Concert in Sutton

A moving concert marked four years since the invasion of Ukraine, bringing Sutton’s Ukrainian community together in remembrance, gratitude and solidarity.

On Saturday 28 February 2026, the Ukrainian community in Sutton came together for a special commemoration concert marking four years since the full invasion of Ukraine.

Held at Christ Church Sutton, the event brought together around 450 people for an evening of reflection, solidarity and community. Residents, school staff, students, volunteers, local organisations and community members gathered to show their respect and support for those affected by the war.

Although many Ukrainians are far from their homeland, the concert showed how community can bring people together and create a sense of family. The evening was filled with warmth, compassion and shared hope.

The programme included a series of heartfelt speeches and performances. The event opened with a welcome from Reverend Phil Brooks of Christ Church. Gill Bonner from the The Salvation Army led an interactive activity symbolising the unity of hearts within the community.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening was a performance by Ukrainian children who sang beautifully. Guests were also treated to a moving speech from Sam Martin, Deputy Leader of Sutton Council, who shared words of encouragement and support for the Ukrainian community.

The concert featured a breathtaking performance by the “Phoenix” band, whose music created a comforting and reflective atmosphere throughout the event.

The evening concluded with a heartfelt speech from Nataliya Semchyshyn, who expressed deep gratitude to the Sutton community for the kindness and support shown to Ukrainians since the beginning of the conflict.

Guests were then invited to enjoy refreshments prepared by members of the Ukrainian community as a gesture of thanks to everyone who attended.

The church was decorated with traditional Ukrainian colours and decorations, and many attendees wore traditional clothing, creating a warm and welcoming environment that celebrated Ukrainian culture and resilience.

The Ukrainian community in Sutton is incredibly grateful to the volunteers, performers and everyone who helped make the concert possible. Events like this not only honour those affected by the war but also strengthen the bonds within the community.
