A visit to RHS Garden Wisley offered comfort, connection and moments of joy for Sutton’s Ukrainian community through shared experiences in nature.

On 28th May 2026, Sutton’s Ukrainian community enjoyed a wonderful visit to the beautiful RHS Wisley Garden. Nearly fifty Ukrainians took part in the trip, which proved to be a truly special experience for everyone involved.

On the way to Wisley, Nataliya, Coordinator of the Ukraine Support Project, shared fascinating information about the garden’s history and unique features. Her engaging introduction helped us appreciate the significance of this remarkable place and made us even more excited about the visit.

We were especially fortunate with the weather. It was a beautiful, sunny day, which added to the enjoyment of the trip and allowed us to make the most of the stunning surroundings. Throughout the visit, we admired the magnificent displays of roses and rhododendrons and were captivated by the collections of tropical and subtropical plants, which made us feel as though we were travelling through different parts of the world.

Particularly touching were the fruit orchards and kitchen gardens, which reminded many of us of home in Ukraine, family gardens, village life and cherished childhood memories. These moments created a special sense of connection with our homeland and brought back many warm recollections.

The trip offered not only the pleasure of experiencing such beautiful surroundings but also a valuable opportunity to relax, socialize and support one another. Spending time in nature and in the company of others had a positive impact on our wellbeing. For people who have been displaced from their homes, opportunities like this are especially important, helping to reduce isolation, strengthen community connections and foster a sense of belonging.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day, and many participants left with new friendships and happy memories. It was a reminder of how important community activities are in supporting wellbeing and bringing people together.

Our sincere thanks go to the organisers and everyone who helped make this visit possible. Thanks to your kindness and dedication, this day will remain a treasured memory for all who took part.
