Volunteer Centre Sutton is celebrating the impact of its Health Navigators project after delivering free blood pressure checks to over 150 people at Sutton Council’s Civic Offices in just two days.
Councillor Barry Lewis, Leader of Sutton Council, and London Borough of Sutton staff were among those who had their blood pressure checked by three volunteer Health Navigators as part of the national Know Your Numbers campaign.
Project lead Lisha and three volunteers carried out health checks on Tuesday 13 January and Wednesday 21 January. On the first day, they saw 51 people, followed by 105 people on the second day — reaching a total of 156 residents and staff across the two sessions.
The project provides early intervention to help prevent strokes and cardiovascular disease. High blood pressure often has no visible symptoms, making regular checks vital for identifying risks early and encouraging people to take action.
Through the Health Navigators project, trained volunteers visit workplaces and community venues to offer free blood pressure and pulse checks, helping residents access important health information and signposting them to further support where needed.
The initiative is delivered in partnership with the London Borough of Sutton’s Public Health Directorate and forms part of the wider Know Your Numbers campaign to raise awareness of blood pressure and heart health across the borough.
Volunteer Centre Sutton is proud of the dedication of its Health Navigators and the difference they are making by bringing simple, life-saving health checks directly into the community.
