Health Navigators: Koileswari’s Path from Volunteering to Paid Employment

Koileswari’s volunteering journey helped her gain key skills, confidence, and experience, paving the way to secure a paid role successfully.

Back in my hometown, I was actively involved in charitable organisations, so when I moved to the UK, I knew I wanted to continue contributing while also settling into my new environmentThat’s when I discovered opportunities through the Volunteering Centre Sutton and began my journey as a Volunteer Health Navigator as well as volunteering advisor.

Volunteering has always felt natural to me because I genuinely care about people and want to make a difference

I was able to gain confidence, integrate in this country, and use my existing skills. As a Health Navigator, I contributed to raising awareness around cardiovascular health through Blood pressure and BMI checks, while my role as a Volunteering Advisor allowed me to help others reduce loneliness and gain valuable skills.

Through these experiences, I strengthened my communication, empathy, teamwork, and IT skills, all of which prepared me for employment - in an admin role at Croydon Unvicersity Hospital. This journey has been empowering. I am proud of the contribution I’ve made and grateful for everything I’ve learned along the way.
