Rosina and Alex, one of our Sutton Befrienders pairs

Rosina is an 87 year old lady who referred herself to Sutton Befrienders in 2019, looking for some company. By her own admission, Rosina doesn’t like her own company so after the passing of her husband and a lot of her friends and siblings, she found herself feeling lonely. We matched her with her volunteer, Alex and in the last year they have been enjoying getting to know one another and getting out and about. They’ve been for walks, to museums and for lots of afternoon teas!

Rosina and Alex Whitehall MuseumRosina says about her experience of befriending:

“Alex is a very nice, charming young lady. She takes me in her car to lots of nice places and I enjoy being able to still get out. I enjoy her company and having someone to have a conversation with.”

Alex says about their relationship:
“I have loved getting to know Rosina and hearing all the amazing stories about her life. Our friendship is very mutually beneficial, and we do love a nice coffee & a natter on the weekends. Befriending has given me the amazing opportunity to meet someone who I probably never would have and learn from her. I no longer think of befriending as volunteering but rather as a place I found a new friend.”
