A Raffle That Keeps on Giving
This isn’t just any raffle. Every pound raised will go directly towards funding our long-running Sutton Befrienders service, which offers companionship to isolated older people across Sutton.
After a loss of funding this year, the future of this 60-year-old service is at risk. We can’t let it disappear — not when so many residents rely on it for friendship, connection and emotional support. For those living alone, with care needs, or struggling with poor mental health, the weekly visit of a Befriender is often the highlight of their week. It’s a human connection that brings joy, stability and the reassurance that someone cares.
I was so disheartened to hear that funding has come to an end for the Sutton Befrienders. Jan was introduced to me through the Sutton Befrienders a couple years ago. Jan suffers from social phobia and my weekly visit is often the only human contact she has for weeks on end.
