Volunteers' Week 2019: Denise at The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity

Denise Royal Marsden volunteerThe Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. They ensure their nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world.

From funding state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, they will never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity have a team of around 470 volunteers who are an important part of their workforce. Their team of volunteers give more than 25,000 hours of their time each year.

Volunteers do all kinds of things including manning the fundraising shop at The Royal Marsden Sutton, running stalls at outside events such as fairs and fêtes, organising fundraising events and community collecting, and, last but not least, stewarding walkers on The Banham Marsden March, the charity’s annual 15-mile fundraising walk.

Denise Clarke, who has been volunteering since 1995, in her role as an events volunteer co-ordinator says:

"The Royal Marsden is world renowned and deservedly so. To maintain its excellence in all fields, it needs funds as well as the excellent researchers and multi-disciplinary staff within it. Being part of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity enables us to contribute in a practical way, a tiny bit towards this goal. To give such support, however small, is important and worthwhile, especially as we are so lucky to have this incredible hospital right on our doorstep!"

This Volunteers’ Week, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity would like to thank Denise:

Amy Mullins, Head of Community Fundraising says: "Volunteers are such an important part of the team at The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. From raising much needed funds to supporting patients and staff on the wards at The Royal Marsden, they are making a real difference to the lives of cancer patients. We are incredibly grateful to Denise for her many years of support and our whole team of wonderful volunteers."
