Young Commissioners Champion Inclusion in Interactive equality, diversity and inclusion

Young Commissioners take part in engaging equality, diversity and inclusion session, sharing ideas, building confidence and exploring how to create inclusive communities together

On 12 March 2026, 16 Young Commissioners gathered at Volunteer Centre Sutton’s Wallington office for an engaging session focused on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI). The session was led by Kelly Saini Badwal, Head of Cultural Services at Sutton Council.

Kelly guided the group through a discussion on what EDI means to them, encouraging young people to reflect on equality, diversity and inclusion and how these values influence their everyday lives. The session created a supportive and open environment where participants felt comfortable sharing their thoughts and experiences.

Through interactive discussions and group activities, the Young Commissioners explored key EDI topics in more depth. They considered how to make schools and community spaces more inclusive, sharing practical ideas to help others feel welcomed and valued.

The session was lively and engaging, with young people actively contributing and learning from one another. By the end, participants had strengthened their understanding of EDI and shown a strong commitment to creating more inclusive communities.
