Volunteer Centre Sutton recently organised a day out at Deen City Farm for Afghan families we are supporting through our Afghanistan Support project. We were delighted that Amy Tse and Bea Stilgoe (pictured right), members of the London Borough of Sutton's Refugee Resettlement Team also joined us for the day.
Our project is to support Afghan families within the Borough of Sutton to encourage them to interact with each other as they have a shared cultural history and enjoy what's on offer in the borough and surrounding areas.
The trip to Deen City Farm was organised to bring the families together, and provide a safe and free environment for the children to have fun. The adults were able to relax and chat, while the children got up close and personal with the animals. Activities including feeding the goats, meeting and greeting smaller pets and pony rides. One of the mums provided a home cooked chicken biryani for us all to share and enjoy, which was warmly reecived especially on such a cold wet rainy day. The children enjoyed the puddles as much as feeding the goats.
One of the families said: "I wanted to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for organising and accompanying us on the farm trip. It was such a fantastic experience, and we could not have done it without you. The families had a blast, and the kids were over the moon with excitement. Your effort putting it all together made the day so special for everyone involved."
Another family said: "I want to express my appreciation to Sarah, Bea and Amy. Thank you so much for everything. We had a great time, and my sons enjoyed it a lot."
