This time last year, long-serving volunteer, Gordon Thomas, kindly proposed Sutton Befrienders as one of the charities to benefit from the Rotary Club of Sutton Nonsuch’s Christmas Collection. As a result, Sutton Befrienders were able to host a lovely summer party for our Befriending pairs and group members at YourSpaceSutton.
Here is a photo of Sutton Befrienders Manager, Irene Jordan, receiving the donation. And guests enjoying the picnic.
Our guests shared with us how much they enjoyed the event:
“Thank you so much for organising the lovely picnic.”
“It was a great success, we enjoyed it very much, the food and drinks just kept coming.”
Gordon has been a Befriender since 2018 and enjoys the opportunity to contribute to the community in a personal, direct and rewarding way. He is eagerly anticipating meeting his next match. This will be the fourth person he has supported with weekly visits to offer friendship and conversation. Gordon has also encouraged other Rotary members to become Befrienders.
An established author whose books are sold at the Royal Albert Hall, Gordon’s latest and sixth book, “Anton Bruckner A Genius Emerges” was published earlier this year. He first discovered Bruckner’s music when a member of the World Record Club aged 15 and has been a fan ever since. “I feel he wrote his music for me!” We are very grateful to Gordon for donating proceeds from his book sales to Volunteer Centre Sutton.
So, if you are looking for a Christmas present for a friend or family member with a passion for music, history or a desire to better understand the misunderstood, then look no further.
