Ukraine: joining the Ukrainian community in Sutton to mark the two years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine

On Saturday 24th February 2024, the Ukrainian community in Sutton came together to mark the two years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The event was organised by our Ukraine project coordinator, Nataliya, and took place at Christ Church Sutton, following the end of our usual Ukraine Saturday Morning school.

The children and families were joined by members of the wider Ukrainian community, as well as representatives from Christ Church Sutton, Sutton Salvation Army and Sutton Council.

Traditional Ukrainian songs were performed by both children and adults, and everyone came together to observe a minute’s silence and a joint prayer. Nataliya, our Ukraine Project Coordinator said:

"Ukrainians used opportunities to express their gratitude both personally and from the whole Ukrainian community. We were very happy to welcome representatives from Sutton Council and the many voluntary groups which have given us so much support as well as the sponsors who have taken families into their homes. Thank you for supporting Ukrainians, who were forced by the war to find their shelter in Sutton and its surroundings."
