Young Commissioners: Collaborate with Sutton Women’s Centre on Young Women’s Empowerment event

Ten Young Commissioners opened up the Young Women’s Empowerment event at Throwley Yard Cinema on Thursday 27th February.

Young Commissioners Throwley Yard event 1

The Young Commissioners began by speaking about young women in education (the Girls Day School Trust and the Girls Learning Trust), and presenting two quizzes on Sutton Women's Centre concerns and Inspirational Women. They finished with an inspirational talk about women in medicine. Following on from there, was a fantastic evening of further entertainment from singers and speakers, stalls educating on the HPV vaccine and the Women’s Centre, a photo station and free pizza!

Here’s what some of the Young Commissioners involved had to say about the event:

“I'm immensely proud to be a part of the event. I found it was inspiring and empowering for all the girls and young women to reach their full potential.” Kiana

“I hope that our presentation on women in medicine has spread my love and interest of medicine to other young women. This was an amazing opportunity to present and network with other people.” Navani

“The event made me feel safe and empowered and I hope that they continue doing this so that they can keep reaching a wider audience” Daksha

“I really enjoyed how united the audience felt talking about women’s empowerment and I hope more events like this take place to spread more awareness and create a better society for women.” Sahana

“I found the event to be highly informative, as the speakers were passionate about advocating for their causes. Many shared personal experiences and journeys of self-love and discovery, using them as a form of self-expression that resonated with others on similar paths. Others focused on raising awareness about women's physical and healthcare needs. I gained valuable insights from both the information shared and the diverse perspectives presented. If a similar event were held in the future, I would love to participate again.” Valerie

“The event was a great way to see women empower each other and to look into the history of Sutton Women’s Centre. I would really appreciate if there were any similar events in the future!” Karena

“I had an amazing time at the incredible women’s empowerment event! All the speeches were fantastic and I really enjoyed the fun, welcoming and lively atmosphere! I am looking forward to attending more events like this one!” Maryam
