Aratrika and Emma received a Jack Petchey Achievement Award in recognition of their commitment, contribution and hard work as part of the Young Commissioners programme. Their dedication has made a meaningful difference, highlighting the positive impact young people can have within their communities.
In a proud family moment, Aratrika’s mother, Souvi, a staff member at Volunteer Centre Sutton and project coordinator with the Young Commissioners, was also honored with a Jack Petchey Leadership Award. Her work coordinating the programme alongside session leaders has been instrumental in helping young people build confidence and find their voice.
Both Aratrika and Souvi were presented with their awards by the Worshipful the Mayor of the London Borough of Sutton, Councillor Louise Phelan.
The awards ceremony, part of the Jack Petchey Sutton Schools and Clubs Achievement Awards 2026 on 28 April, brought together young people from schools and youth organisations across the borough. Held at Epsom Playhouse, the event welcomed guests and VIPs, including the Mayor of Sutton, who helped present awards celebrating the achievements and resilience of young people.
The evening featured speeches from VIP guests, alongside inspiring performances from talented young people. As each winner was announced, the venue filled with cheers and applause, creating a powerful atmosphere of pride, joy and encouragement.
With music, lights and a strong sense of celebration throughout, the event highlighted the importance of recognising dedication and effort. For both Aratrika and Souvi, being celebrated in front of such a supportive audience made the occasion especially memorable.
