In 2018 Healthwatch Sutton surveyed over 5000 young people aged 11-18, looking at their mental health needs. The findings of this survey have just been published in a report - Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Survey Report January 2019.
Young people’s mental health is something that our Young Commissioners feel is one of the most pressing issues to be tackled in Sutton and so they were delighted to be asked by Healthwatch Sutton to test the survey and give feedback on the shape of the questions. The report thanks the Young Commissioners for representing young people as part of this process.
"I think it would be really good to just encourage people to talk more about how they are feeling - it is never a burden if talking to the right people. Sorry if it sounds quite cliché but talking does make things seem less daunting" Helen, Young Commissioner
Following the report’s publication, one of the recommendations is to involve the Young Commissioners further “to carry out more in depth analysis into issues concerning access and stigma”.
