Volunteer Centre Sutton celebrates Refugee Week with a Community Picnic

Over 70 people attended a community picnic at Hill House on Saturday 22nd June where we warmly welcomed families from the Ukraine, Hong Kong and Afghanistan communities in Sutton.

The event was filled with fun activities, music and games, creating a joyful and inclusive atmosphere for all attendees. bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate unity, culture, and togetherness.

The children from the Ukrainian Saturday Morning Cultural Group were a highlight of the day, enchanting everyone with their traditional dances and songs. Their lively performances, full of enthusiasm and joy, painted a vivid picture of Ukrainian culture and heritage. Not to be outdone, the adult choir followed with soulful renditions of traditional Ukrainian songs, emphasising the rich cultural tapestry of their homeland.

Volunteer Centre Sutton’s Young Commissioners worked together with the Ukrainian teenagers, volunteering their time to deliver activities to entertain the younger members of the multicultural communities. This included very popular glitter tattoos, temporary transfers, henna tattoos, colouring in, colour scratch crafts and various ball games.
